- B&W G3 client can crash when using Miles Apart media. Had to increase the client stack space due to heavier use of the OS in B&W G3s.
- Support for the JVC MC-2100.
- Find in Jukebox could not select another jukebox. Fixed.
- Find in Jukebox looped endless when client had access to no CD at all. Fixed.
- New option in the preferences to turn off RAM-caching. There are reported some problems with RAM caching in regard to defecitive media. To mediate the problem customers encoutering that problem can turn off the caching and prevent further problems.
Version 2.1.3 May-99
- When a client had virtual memory turned on and wanted to launch a program from a CD this could cause a system freeze. Because the access was via the network and not to a local device there had to be made special changes for some Mac OS driver status messages.
Version 2.1.2 Apr-99
- Replication functionality added to recording.
- Fixed problems with Import/Export in certain jukeboxes.
- Media in drives will be marked in the main window.
- Changed visual appearance of the media in a jukebox.
Version 2.1.1 Mar-99
- Had problems with the Pioneer DRM-1004X jukebox. Fixed.
- Jukeboxes like the Pioneer DRM-5004X and the JVC MC-1200/1600 and MC-2200/2600 series always perform the check of all slots initially. The check might need half an hour or even more.
To prevent this a dialog will show up. If nothing has changed the customer can choose not to check the jukebox again.
For unattended operation the dialog will automatically dismiss itself after a few seconds. For safety reasons the check will be always started after automatic dismissal.
- In a NSM CDR 100 XA a CD will be put back - like in any other jukebox - after 10 minutes of no longer being used.
- The display of available media for recording in the Archiving Dialog was wrong.
- Added support - again - for Kodak jukeboxes that do not know about their own drives. This can only happen with a CDL-144.
There are strict rules about the autodetection of such a jukebox.
1. Only Teac drives will be recognized.
2. All drives have to be on the same bus as the jukebox itself.
3. There are only the exact number of known drives allowed that are in the jukebox. You cannot have an additional Teac drive on that bus. This means that you need another bus for a second jukebox with Teac drives.
2. The SCSI adresses must match the numbers of the drives in the way that the lowest address is equal to the drive with the lowest number.
- The Sony CDL2100/2200 series is now fully supported.
- The watch folder and the AppleScript handler could not be selected when the Navigation Services were not present. The navigations services where introduced by Apple in system 8.5. Fixed.
- The Disc information dialog box now has additional information about recording data. If the medium was already checked in a recorder the number of free bytes is listed.
Additionally a medium can be included or excluded as a recordable medium.
- When no jukebox with recorder was found, the "Recording Jobs" window did not show any indication. Changed.
Version 2.1.1b2 Feb-99
Bug fixes:
Wrong error texts in some cases
A few error texts were not correct. Fixed.
Version 2.1.1b1 Jan-99
New features:
Recording
This is the first version that does recording.
Bulk import of CDs
There is a new menu item that lets you import any number of CDs. A dialog will ask for the number of media to import.
The mail slot will open and you can insert CD until either the number of requested media has been imported, the jukebox is full or the mail slot was closed without a medium inserted.
Known problems:
ISO Naming conventions
Due to discrepancies in naming conventions Miles Apart might not be able to delete, make Alias files and call the AppleScript handler "milesApartCreated" for certain files/folder that have been written on ISO CDs. This is because there is a mapping conflict between the recording engine and Miles Apart in regard to certain special characters.
Sony CDL2100/2200/5000 still not working
There is a known problem at start or Miles Apart with the Sony CDL2100/2200/5000 jukeboxes. We will release an update as soon as we get a box to test the problems.
Version 2.1 Jan-99
Known problems:
Sony CDL2100/2200/5000 not working
There is a known problem at start or Miles Apart with the Sony CDL2100/2200/5000 jukeboxes. We will release an update as soon as we get a box to test the problems.
Bug fixes:
Security could not be enabled under some systems
Due to an unknown assumption in Apple's code for the access of the "Users & Groups Data" file PowerPC versions of Miles Apart could crash after enabling the security features. Fixed.
Find in Jukebox
Hitting the Command-F button when the window with the found items was in front crashed the utility. Fixed.
CDs not returned after checking
In a NSM Mercury and a Pioneer DRM1004X jukebox CDs were net correctly returned after checking. Fixed.
Version 2.1b1 Oct-98
New features:
Major rewrite of the jukebox classes
The jukebox classes represent the internal software to access the functionality of a jukebox. In preparation to recording there had to be a major overhaul.
Miles Apart now interacts with the jukebox to inquire about it's drives. This leads to a greater flexibility to the handling of a jukebox.
Support for jukeboxes with TurboTDD®
NSM jukebox introduced TurboTDD to allow much faster swap times of CDs in a jukebox. This technique transfers control of the drive to within the jukebox server software, which works together with the drive controller to pre-"queue" the disc being loaded into each CD drive. The drive is then able to begin data transfer the instant the robotics is able to load the disc. The result is much faster access to the files stored on each CD in the system.
Miles Apart now supports this feature on all appropriate drives.
Newer CD-R drives will be used as readers
In earlier versions or Miles Apart all CD-R drives were simply ignored. Now newer CD-R drives (Plextor 412, Teak 55) are speedy enough to be used as readers as well.
Improved behavior:
Kodak CDL-144 new firmware
Miles Apart now demands the new firmware 1.50 or later. This was necessary to enable the new scheme for the Kodak CDL-144.
Caches new information on ISO9660 CDs
With the introduction of a new Mac OS we realized that Miles Apart had to cache even more information of ISO 9660 CDs to prevent each CD to be inserted. If you have ISO 9660 CDs you might want to rebuild that cache files.
Bug fixes:
Save Users&Groups information at time of data entry
New information about users&groups was only stored when Miles Apart was quit. If the server had a power failure the information was never saved.
Find in Jukebox
Miles Apart had rare crashes during search operations for "Find in Jukebox". Fixed.
